About genealogical tables

Calendars

All information concerning dates refers to each country's local calendar.

In Denmark and Norway the Julian calendar was used until the 18th of February 1700. The following day was, according to the Gregorian calendar, the 1st of March 1700.

In Sweden the Julian calendar was used until the 28th of February 1700. The plan was to introduce the Gregorian calendar gradually by removing all leap-days until 1740. In the first step the leap-day the 29th of February 1700 was removed. Probably due to the Nordic war, this reform then was forgotten and the leap-days in 1704 and 1708 were not removed. In 1712 the King decided to return to the Julian calendar by adding one extra day to February. This meant that February 1712 became 30 days including the normal leap-day and the extra day. Consequently Sweden had a calendar of it's own between the 1st of March 1700 and the 30th of February 1712. The Julian calendar then was used again from 1st of March 1712 until the 17th of February 1753. The following day was, according to the introduced Gregorian calendar, the 1st of March 1753.
